Tigers of India.
Our story on the tigers of India is published in the current isuue of Asian Geographic Magazine ( No 122 Issue 6/2016). The past 13 years have taken us on several journeys through many parts of India. The rich biodiversity of nature in India has led us to return again and again begging for more. The article described our very first journey to photograph the Royal Bengal Tiger in India  in 2002 and the journey we made in February 2016 to the Kabini River Lodge.
Travel Information
Kabini River Lodge is about 250 Km south west of the city of Bangalore in the state of Karnataka in India. We left the hotel in Bangalore at 5:45 am to catch the afternoon safari at 3:30 pm. Along the way, we stopped at the Rangananthittu Bird Sanctuary where Mr. Muruka, our boatman was waiting for us at 8 am with his boat. Open-billed stork, Eurasian Spoonbill, River Tern, Spot-billed Pelican, Common and Pied Kingfishers, Marsh crocodile were some of the subjects we photographed. We also made a short detour to the nearby village of Chandagala to see the colony of bee-eaters. We arrived Kabini River Lodge just in time for lunch.

Rangananthittu Bird Sanctuary was declared as a bird sanctuary in 1940 by the Maharaja of Mysore at the request of Dr. Salim Ali.
Kabini River Lodge is situated in Nagahore National Park which is one of the oldest National Park in India created in 1955. It was once maintained as the hunting ground for the Mysore royal family.
Nagahore is one of the best and last remaining habitats for the Asian Elephant.
Nagahore has the highest wild tiger population in India.
When to go
Between October and April. Most comfortable time to visit is between November and March. Avoid the peak holiday season between December and January.
